Tairyuken (大龍軒) is an old Chinese restaurant located in Kurashiki. The restaurant is only a few minutes from my house, but this is really out of the way if you are not from the Mizushima or Tamashima area.
The neighborhood of Tsurunoura is bordered by the Takahashi river and Mt. Ohira. There is no easy way to get there and if you happen to drive, the streets are on the narrow side. Look for the tiny shopping arcade.
The interior is pure classic Chinese restaurant. My wife noticed the old phone on the counter protected my a plastic box.
The menu has all the classics. We shared the liver with garlic and green pepper. Our order came out quickly. The liver was really good.
My wife ordered the gomoku ramen.
The set menu was 650 yen. Great deal. Chicken, stir fry, salad, rice and chicken soup.
Here is a close up.
The restaurant is kid friendly. I learned that Tairyuken has been in business for 43 years. I will try to go there to further explore the menu. Eating Chinese in Japan is always a fun experience. There is an old tradition of Japanese style Chinese food and this is good place to try it out.
If you know old Chinese restaurants, please don’t hesitate to share with me.
