Kishimoto Shokudo in Motobu, Okinawa

We parked our car at the small Motobu town market and waited in line under the pouring rain. A few minutes after we arrived, a long line formed behind us.  Kishimoto  Shokudo きしもと食堂 is probably the most famous sokisoba shop in Okinawa.

Kanasandou in Motobu, Okinawa

We decided to rent a small house in Motobu near the famous Churaumi aquarium, so we could explore a different part of Okinawa. Our small house seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, but  Kanasandou turned out to be a short walk from where we stayed.

Mexico Tacos in Ginowan, Okinawa

During my last visit to Okinawa, I visited Mexico restaurant in Ginowan. Ginowan is located between Naha and Chatan.    Mexico is a unique restaurant which serves only one thing : handmade fresh tacos.  That’s it!

Ten to Ten, Naha, Okinawa

I found Ten to Ten or in Japanese てん to てん on the very popular Tabelog website where it earned the first place in the lunch/café section for the year 2013.  Tabelog is a very popular site in Japan and when you make it to first place, you can expect a horde of foodies to come … Continue reading “Ten to Ten, Naha, Okinawa”

Habu Shokudou in Naha, Okinawa

We braved the wind and the rain to get to Habu Shokudou which is located right inside to the main gate of Naha harbour. This place is not on the regular tourist trail, but make the hike, you won’t regret it.  I also suggest you go there on an empty stomach, you might even consider … Continue reading “Habu Shokudou in Naha, Okinawa”

Ishigaki Island Starbucks in Okinawa

When you land on Ishigaki Island in Okinawa, it has this weird last frontier kind of feeling, yet I was surprised to see a Starbucks Coffee shop at the airport.  This is where it’s stop, there is only one Starbucks on the island.

Mahou Coffee in Okinawa

Mahou Coffee is colorful café  located in Ginowan, just outside of Naha City.  I am not sure how easily this coffee shop can be reached without a car, but it was well worth the drive.   From the outside, Mahou looks like a regular boxy Okinawa home.

Tofu no Higa in Ishigaki, Okinawa

The car navigation was telling me to turn left but I was starting to have strong doubts. I knew that Tofu no Higa was a small restaurant, but I could not imagine it was in the middle of a field just outside the center of  Ishigaki city.

Takesan Tei: Ishigaki yakiniku

Ishigaki Island is  the last frontier of Japan, a remote outpost closer to Taiwan than the main land. It is also famous for it’s beef and I had a chance to try it at Takesan Tei.
