I visited to the Yabaton Honten (Main store) during a recent visit to Nagoya to eat some misokatsu. Yabaton came highly recommended by Nagoya native.
Nagoya is famous for its red miso which has a very distinct taste. Red miso is hard to describe, it’s much more potent then the stuff you would find in generic miso soup and some people really can stand the taste.
Ikkaku chicken is legendary on the island of Shikoku. Personally, if I am not eating udon while visiting Kagawa Prefecture on the island of Shikoku, I am probably eating chicken at Ikkaku. The Dokigawa (Doki river) branch is the biggest Ikkaku restaurant I have visited so far and it’s busy.
Do you remember Julia Roberts eating delicious pizza in the Eat Pray Love movie? In the movie, she is visiting Naples and she eats pizza from L’Antica Pizzaria da Michele until she can’t fit into her jeans. Surprisingly, you can eat the same pizza (minus Julia Roberts) near Ebisu station in Tokyo.
It’s our second visit to Seaside Uwakai うわかい in Ehime and I could not be more delighted to go back. This little family pension is located on the seaside between Uwajima and Yawatahama in Ehime Prefecture. To access the pension, you will need to drive on the extremely narrow and windy route 378. If you are a nervous driver or you are doubting your driving skills, you might want to skip this one.
I recently complained online about the relative homogeneity of the Indian food scene in Okayama and somebody pointed me toward Spicy Spice. I’m glad they directed my attention to this small South Indian restaurant located near the Okayama City Hall.
Eating eggs in Japan can leave the most adventurous eater shocked and scared. I arrived in Japan in 2008 and I can still remember looking in disbelief at somebody cracking a fresh egg into a bowl and dipping sukiyaki into it. I was open minded, but eating raw egg was pushing it. Takata Sairan specializes in serving raw egg over rice which is commonly know as tamago kake gohan. Oh yes, I overcame my initial reaction… it’s delicious.
Mitchan okonomiyaki has always been one of my favorite in Hiroshima city and the new Miyabi branch located on the 10th floor of the Sogo department store brings this Hiroshima speciality to another level.
