Kakouken Chinese Restaurant

Kakouken 華光軒 is an old Chinese restaurant very well hidden in a tiny alley behind Bic Camera.  If you come from Okayama Station, the electronic store is located across the street on your left.

Bee Cheng Hiang please come to Japan

I moved to Japan 8 years ago and since then I have travelled a lot in Asia:  I must admit that I am addicted to Bee Cheng Hiang bakkwa.  Bakkwa is a dried meat with a sweet coating which is similar to beef jerky but much softer and tender.

Habu Shokudou in Naha, Okinawa

We braved the wind and the rain to get to Habu Shokudou which is located right inside to the main gate of Naha harbour. This place is not on the regular tourist trail, but make the hike, you won’t regret it.  I also suggest you go there on an empty stomach, you might even consider … Continue reading “Habu Shokudou in Naha, Okinawa”

Toushinden Yakiniku

Toushinden Yakiniku is located on route 30 not too far from route 2, if you are familiar with Okayama, this is the road that goes to Tamano.   It most definitely not centrally located, but it is worth the bike ride, the bus ride, the walk or anything that will get you there.   It … Continue reading “Toushinden Yakiniku”

Yabaton Misokatsu

Nagoya has the reputation of being a heavy weight player in the B-1 gourmet scene in Japan and I finally had a chance to see what all the fuss was about.  I came back from Nagoya slightly fatter, but it’s worth the extra effort it will take to burn it off. Yabaton Misokatsu came highly … Continue reading “Yabaton Misokatsu”

Yabaton Misokatsu came highly recommended by a friend who lives in Nagoya.  You know it’s trouble when the logo of a shop has a sumo wrestling pig on it, but Yabaton is all about pig, more precisely, deep fried pork cutlet.

Sakamoto Kasaoka Ramen

Sakamoto ramen was recommended by two residents of Kasaoka and it was described to me as the real McCoy. The shop is located almost right across from Idehara ramen shop and it’s only a short walk from Kasaoka station.
